16+ Academic

Year 12 entry

Academic scholars at Monkton demonstrate strong general academic ability across a range of subjects and a deep love for learning. All recipients of the academic scholarship are expected to be role models and ambassadors in the academic life of the school, drawing others into academic development through their example and engagement.

Scholars will be expected to participate and engage in a variety of settings, including lectures and conferences , group discussions, practical work, project work (such as the Extended Project Qualification), trips (such as to Oxford University and the Houses of Parliament), regular scholars meetings and essay competitions.

The programme will provide scholars with:

  • Participation in advanced conferences (eg (Model United Nations)
  • Collaborative project work like the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
  • Scholars' trips (eg to Oxford University, Houses of Parliament)
  • Weekly group session in the Michaelmas and Lent terms with talks and activities
  • Termly mentoring session
  • Annual report to parents

  • Become elite academic role models for younger pupils, inspiring academic excellence
  • Pursue high academic standards and model the impact of diligence in their own work
  • Model Monkton values of humility, service, confidence and integrity in the classroom and within the wider life of the school

 

PREPARING FOR ASSESSMENT

Application deadline: Friday 16th October 2026

You should be building strong foundational knowledge across your chosen subjects up to GCSE

By the application deadline submit to Admissions:

  • 90 second piece to camera, explaining what you enjoy about acadeic study and how you hope to develop through being an academic scholar

 

Scholarship Assessment Day

Assessement date: Tuesday 10th November 2026

  • 3 x 1 hour exams, set at GCSE level of difficulty, in subject of student’s choice {from the subjects we offer at A-Level)
  • Problem solving activity/critical thinking activity
  • Interview with Deputy Head Academic
  • Interview with the Principal
